Introduction to Abstract Painting with Cold Wax and Oil
Mon-Fri Jun 25-29, 9AM-4PM, $450
Location: Brockville Campus

In this lively workshop, you will work with cold wax medium and oil. This is a very safe medium that requires no heating. Cold wax is a softly impasto medium which adds a translucency to oil paints. One of the most exciting things is learning how to pull thin layers of this delicate medium over the layer below to create overlapping colour fields using silicone scrapers instead of brushes.

We will experiment with countless ways of texturing and making marks. We build a solid foundation for our abstract paintings as we work with the principles of design. Move step-by-step through the elements of art, learning techniques related to each element, always focusing on the structure of the painting. There will be lots of individual attention to help you move toward a more personal voice. As the paintings develop during the week, the goal is to learn more about your individual preferences and develop a personal painting vocabulary. And always, explore and play!
